Sura Medura International Artist Residency Centre
Sura Medura is an international artist residency centre located in Hikkaduwa in South West Sri Lanka. It was established in 2011 and offers funded opportunities for European (incl. UK) based artists and self-funded opportunities for artists from elsewhere.
It was founded to continue the artistic programme of the Chandrasevana Centre that was established by the Hikkaduwa Area Relief Fund.
Artists from all disciplines are invited to submit proposals to create work that is enhanced by being developed in Sri Lanka. Selected artists are offered mentorship and opportunities to meet with their peers in the Sri Lankan arts community. There are also opportunities to present the resulting work in the UK and further afield.
Sura Medura has received support from IN SITU, Creative Scotland, Arts Council England and the British Council. It has hosted over 150 international and local artists. Have a look at the Sura Medura website for more details and read Creative Scotland’s article about Sura Medura.
