1988-Now • Mike Rowan and Surreal McCoy
The first street theatre performer I met when I came to Scotland, and possibly THE first Scottish street theatre performer, was the fabulous Mike Rowan.
A designer, builder, inventor and maker, Mike was at that time (1988) performing the Sand Dance with John Brown as well as his legendary Big Rory in Buchanan Street, Glasgow. For a while, I was lucky enough to live in the castle he rebuilt in East Kilbride. He continues to charm across the UK, Australia (and Sri Lanka) as Big Rory whilst his wife Rach terrorises and takes the piss as Ochie the Dog.
