2007 • Sing for Peace
In the middle of the Sri Lankan conflict, working with Mano Wikramanayake of the Maharaja TV network and artist and activist, Thenuwara Chandragupta, we organised a concert that brought together musicians from all of Sri Lanka’s communities. They performed in a concert, televised across the island, to a backdrop of artists’ work hung on the iconic ramparts of the fort in Galle.
Six weeks later the LTTE (Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam) mounted an extraordinary attack, flying two aircraft to bomb Colombo Airport. I was there and this is my account given to BBC World shortly after the attack:
