As the Millennium approached, I became interested in making visual art.
I had been appointed director of Glasgow’s Millennium Celebrations and was thinking about technology developing from analogue to digital. The fact that the calendar was a Christian construct that appeared to have been adopted world wide, I was inspired by Christo and Jean-Claude’s wrapping projects and Piero Manzoni’s stated desire to draw a white line right around the Greenwich Meridian. So I decided to wrap the world, giving a last gasp to fax technology. The project was a collaboration with artists in Glasgow, Jo’burg, Delhi, Sydney, New York and Porto.
